Ok... so this doesn't really have anything to do with the Marine Corps... but I have to get this off my chest because the gazillion dollar stimulus plan and the housing market bail out is really bugging me.
Lets just start with the housing situation. I don't currently have a mortgage so my feelings towards this plan of Obama's isn't biased because of that. With that said... I absolutely don't understand why we as a nation... or should I say our government... continues to reward those who don't do like they should and extend themselves and their money more than they should when the folks who bust their butt to do what is right and pay their bills basically get screwed.
Now mind you what I am about to say isn't geared towards those who were paying their bills until something significant happened in their life such as they were laid off or had a medical issue that caused a financial hardship. I am talking about the folks who constantly live way beyond their means. Those who although they don't have the money dug themselves so deep into the black hole by buying stuff that they couldn't afford. Racking up huge debt for themselves in the process and then after doing this over and over again because they wanted something not because they really needed it now find themselves in a situation where they can't pay the minimum payment on their credit bills... and they also can't pay for the roof over their heads. Those who still can't seem to do without the non-essiential items in life even though they may lose their home. Oh wait... no they won't because the government is going to bail them out.
I am a firm believer of living within your means. If you can't afford it and it isn't something that you absolutely must have you don't get it. There are plenty of things that I WANT... however... I don't absolutely NEED them so until I can afford them without putting it on credit I don't buy it. I wait. I do have credit cards and I do use them however I make certain that each month when that bill comes in... I pay it in full! Now there may be a time in my life that I won't be able to do that if something unexpected comes up. But it sure won't be because I had to have a flat screen tv or some other goodie that I didn't really need.
You should always pay your most important bills first. You make sure you have a roof over your head and food on the table. Then you get your things that make your life a little easier.. phone, cable, internet. Once you have those bills paid... if you have extra... then you can go out to eat... or buy that item that you want... but don't absolutely need.
You don't keep your cable and internet... continue to eat out... continue to get your hair done and your nails done and all of the other crap if you can't afford to pay for the roof over your head and the food to put on your table. But why not when you know that the governement will bail you out.
The folks who are working 2 and 3 jobs and still doing without trying to make ends meet... well those are the folks who wind up being screwed. Can we say BOHICA???
Why is that though? What on earth makes that acceptable? It is wrong! The folks who should be rewarded are those who are busting their butts and doing everything they can think of to make ends meet... they are living below their means... they are cutting back everywhere they can and stretching every dollar they can to get the most of their money. Our government should not be rewarding those who want to run up their credit card bills for non-essential items and who have gotten themselves into this mess because of their own actions. That is just one of the most messed up situations ever. You screwed up... you did this because you didn't live within your means... so hey... let us the government bail you out of this situation... but hey you over there who have been busting your rump and are barely hanging on but you aren't gonna lose your house because you are willing to do whatever you possibly can to keep your head above water... well you can't have any help from the governement.
Seriously folks... why is it that this type of thing is ok? Why is it that this happens over and over? It isn't just the housing... what about welfare? They can't afford to run their house but they can still get their hair and nails done? Or wear fancy clothes? (again... not everyone but there are plenty like that)
I just don't get it...
Now... lets talk about all the companies that have their hand out waiting for the government to slap some money in it...
I think the big business folks could learn a thing or two from the small business people out there. In a small business ... when the owner can't afford to pay his workers... what does he do... does he pay himself and screw his employees? No!!! He pays his employees first... then if there is anything left he pays himself. He doesn't expect to get rich if he can't pay his workers. Seems that has been lost for the most part in corprate america. All the big wigs and big shots that have run those companies into the ground with their bad business decisions still think that they should get paid big bucks. Now where I come from... you get paid for doing the job you were hired to do. If you are hired to lead a company... make it grow and prosper and under your watch it falls into a hole because of the choices you made... ummm guess what... you don't deserve to make a million bucks. At the very most... lets give ya minimum wage for the lousy job you did. Gosh look at all the money we just saved the company! Now maybe you can use that money to keep paying your employees and not have to close down the biz. It is just ridiculous!
I am very disappointed in all of the junk spending that went into this so called stimulus bill. There is so much stuff in there that shouldn't be. The United States is just going to keep going deeper and deeper if the government keeps doing crap like that... and then it is going to be us... and worse... our kids and grandchildren that wind up having to pay the tab. I think it is high time that not only Americans start having to live within their means but also the government stops the reckless spending on stuff they WANT not stuff we NEED!
Whew! I feel a little better now! Ok... enough ranting for now!
