Okinawa is a no go... clearance denied

Well it doesn't look like we will be heading out to Oki after all. A little bit of medical clearance issues nipped it in the bud. I seriously don't get why we were denied really... our docs cleared us... just USMC folks didn't... go figure right.

On the bright side... hubby's orders were completely canc'ed so that was nice. Otherwise he would have went to oki leaving me here with the kiddos for a year... I could have handled that just wouldn't have liked it any that is all. It is one thing to have to be away from him when he is deployed and off somewhere I'm not allowed... whole other ballgame however when I could be there except they don't feel they have the medical that we need.

Anyhoo... for now... we will stay put till the next promotion board lets out... then we should get orders... I'm still hoping for a Jville, NC.... fingers are crossed!

Okinawa Orders... PCS PAINS!!!

Can I tell you all how much of a pain in the behind getting orders to Okinawa is? I am no newbie to pcs moves... I've done quite a few over the years... but they were nothing compared to this one. Even moving cross country while 7 months pregnant with a cat that got car sick was a breeze compared to this!

The paperwork alone is enough to make me want to pull out all of my hair. Add to that the short notice we got with the orders and that just compounds everything. The medical paperwork will take 3-4 weeks.... are you kidding me? That is is after you have your full physicals which will take you at least a week if not 2 or 3 to get scheduled. Passports... TMO (never in my life has tmo moved us... we have always done a dity move... and I still prefer a dity move but that just isn't possible with this one.) So I am sitting here... less than 6 weeks before we are supposed to have the house packed up and go on leave for about 2 weeks before we hop on the plane to fly over... still not sure if the kids and I are cleared to go with hubby...still don't have our passports back... so we are just waiting...

I'm looking around the house... trying to figure out how in the world I am supposed to sort it out into basically 4 different sets... 1st shipment, hhg shipment, 3 yrs of storage, and what I'll be taking to mom's. It would be sooo much easier if I could pack the stuff myself... I could be packing it up and sorting it that way...

I will be soooo glad when we find out we have our clerance (fingers crossed) ... then I can buy our plane tickets... and more importantly... I can stop freaking out and worrying if we will get cleared so we can go with hubby.

Obama's plan for Veteran's Insurance

I must admit that I was absolutely shocked when I heard this plan of Obama's on the news. Talk about slapping our Veterans in the face! I don't understand how they could even remotely think that this would be a good thing. Thank goodness they have come to their senses (at least for now) on this idea.

For those of you who aren't familiar with this... basically they wanted for third party insurance companies to have to cover the cost of taking care of combat injuries of our vets. You can read more about the plan here Obama backs down on vets insurance

How on earth can they say they are for the Military when they are trying or even thinking about getting crap like this passed. This is just insaine! I'm sorry... but if our men and woman are putting it all on the line and fighting for us the least the government can do is friggin take care of them when they are injured instead of trying to make someone else do it which would inturn make the veterans life harder because they would have more trouble getting hired etc. Can someone please give those folks a smart pill to take or something so that insaine ideas like this don't even get thought of?

Military pay raise 2010 proposed

Well... thank goodness there was a law put in place back in 2004 regarding our Military getting a pay raise. I have a feeling if it wasn't for the law we wouldn't see any extra pay each Jan. Under the 2004 law, military salaries must be increased annually at a rate equal to the change in the ECI for the private sector's wages.

For several years our Military was getting the ECI + .5 percent... of course of that extra little bit we barely see any of it... maybe 40 bucks a month after the taxes and everything else right.

Now... the proposed 2010 rates are out... and does Obama want for our Military.... the ones who are out there doing the most for this country... the absolute minimum that he has to give them by law. Oh... isn't that so considerate of him. *SMIRK*

You know... before I knew about the law... I told Military friends they might as well say goodbye to their pay raises as long as Obama is in office. It is nice to know that this law is there... because otherwise I honestly don't think Obama would have given our Military a pay raise at all. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he tried to get that law off the books too.

Stimulus - This is all kinda of messed up!

Ok... so this doesn't really have anything to do with the Marine Corps... but I have to get this off my chest because the gazillion dollar stimulus plan and the housing market bail out is really bugging me.

Lets just start with the housing situation. I don't currently have a mortgage so my feelings towards this plan of Obama's isn't biased because of that. With that said... I absolutely don't understand why we as a nation... or should I say our government... continues to reward those who don't do like they should and extend themselves and their money more than they should when the folks who bust their butt to do what is right and pay their bills basically get screwed.

Now mind you what I am about to say isn't geared towards those who were paying their bills until something significant happened in their life such as they were laid off or had a medical issue that caused a financial hardship. I am talking about the folks who constantly live way beyond their means. Those who although they don't have the money dug themselves so deep into the black hole by buying stuff that they couldn't afford. Racking up huge debt for themselves in the process and then after doing this over and over again because they wanted something not because they really needed it now find themselves in a situation where they can't pay the minimum payment on their credit bills... and they also can't pay for the roof over their heads. Those who still can't seem to do without the non-essiential items in life even though they may lose their home. Oh wait... no they won't because the government is going to bail them out.

I am a firm believer of living within your means. If you can't afford it and it isn't something that you absolutely must have you don't get it. There are plenty of things that I WANT... however... I don't absolutely NEED them so until I can afford them without putting it on credit I don't buy it. I wait. I do have credit cards and I do use them however I make certain that each month when that bill comes in... I pay it in full! Now there may be a time in my life that I won't be able to do that if something unexpected comes up. But it sure won't be because I had to have a flat screen tv or some other goodie that I didn't really need.

You should always pay your most important bills first. You make sure you have a roof over your head and food on the table. Then you get your things that make your life a little easier.. phone, cable, internet. Once you have those bills paid... if you have extra... then you can go out to eat... or buy that item that you want... but don't absolutely need.

You don't keep your cable and internet... continue to eat out... continue to get your hair done and your nails done and all of the other crap if you can't afford to pay for the roof over your head and the food to put on your table. But why not when you know that the governement will bail you out.

The folks who are working 2 and 3 jobs and still doing without trying to make ends meet... well those are the folks who wind up being screwed. Can we say BOHICA???

Why is that though? What on earth makes that acceptable? It is wrong! The folks who should be rewarded are those who are busting their butts and doing everything they can think of to make ends meet... they are living below their means... they are cutting back everywhere they can and stretching every dollar they can to get the most of their money. Our government should not be rewarding those who want to run up their credit card bills for non-essential items and who have gotten themselves into this mess because of their own actions. That is just one of the most messed up situations ever. You screwed up... you did this because you didn't live within your means... so hey... let us the government bail you out of this situation... but hey you over there who have been busting your rump and are barely hanging on but you aren't gonna lose your house because you are willing to do whatever you possibly can to keep your head above water... well you can't have any help from the governement.

Seriously folks... why is it that this type of thing is ok? Why is it that this happens over and over? It isn't just the housing... what about welfare? They can't afford to run their house but they can still get their hair and nails done? Or wear fancy clothes? (again... not everyone but there are plenty like that)

I just don't get it...

Now... lets talk about all the companies that have their hand out waiting for the government to slap some money in it...

I think the big business folks could learn a thing or two from the small business people out there. In a small business ... when the owner can't afford to pay his workers... what does he do... does he pay himself and screw his employees? No!!! He pays his employees first... then if there is anything left he pays himself. He doesn't expect to get rich if he can't pay his workers. Seems that has been lost for the most part in corprate america. All the big wigs and big shots that have run those companies into the ground with their bad business decisions still think that they should get paid big bucks. Now where I come from... you get paid for doing the job you were hired to do. If you are hired to lead a company... make it grow and prosper and under your watch it falls into a hole because of the choices you made... ummm guess what... you don't deserve to make a million bucks. At the very most... lets give ya minimum wage for the lousy job you did. Gosh look at all the money we just saved the company! Now maybe you can use that money to keep paying your employees and not have to close down the biz. It is just ridiculous!

I am very disappointed in all of the junk spending that went into this so called stimulus bill. There is so much stuff in there that shouldn't be. The United States is just going to keep going deeper and deeper if the government keeps doing crap like that... and then it is going to be us... and worse... our kids and grandchildren that wind up having to pay the tab. I think it is high time that not only Americans start having to live within their means but also the government stops the reckless spending on stuff they WANT not stuff we NEED!

Whew! I feel a little better now! Ok... enough ranting for now!

President Elect 2008 Barrack Obama - John McCain Supporters

I am scared as to what the next four years will bring under the next President... Barrack Obama. What is it going to mean for our Military... seriously... we can't have our Military cut... and just the though of our Military being pulled out of Iraq when they are so close to the finish line is like putting a knife in my heart. I didn't vote for Obama, obviously... my vote when to John McCain. I think he was a far better choice for our country. He has the experience this country needs! But unfortunately... it seems that most of the U.S. thinks he is what is best for this country and I couldn't disagree more! But don't blame me when the crap hits the fan cause I didn't help put him in the White House.

And I made myself a few t-shirts and a bumper sticker to say just that to everyone!!!

400 military spouses awarded scholorships

So I was reading this article on how there were 400 military spouses who were awarded scholorships by the National Military Family Association. That is great! The article went on to give a breakdown of how they were distributed.
Of the spouses who received scholarships, 56 percent are married to soldiers, 17 percent are married to sailors, 15 percent are married to airmen, 10 percent are married to Marines, and 2 percent are married to Coast Guard members, according to NMFA.

Upon reading that... my first thought was... well that is nothing new... the Marines got a small portion as usual. Now I don't know that the percents are as skewed as they appear because I don't know the percentage of the 4,382 applicants the came from each of the branches. But still... as someone who has nothing to do with any of that... just reading it and then thinking outloud via my blog. I would think that the fair thing would have been for the distribution percentages to have been a bit closer together than what they are currently. I just don't really see how it is fair that more than half of all of the scholorships awarded went to one branch leaving the other branches to share the 44% that was left.

You can read the entire article here

Marine Corps Marathon

Well the Marine Corps Marathon is just a few months away now. I have a buddy who will be running in it this year. A few years back my husband ran in it. He plans to run in it again at some point but hasn't yet mainly because his deployment schedule was so crazy that he was never sure if he would be home or gone with all of the erratic changes that were going on with their scheduled deployments.

If you are interested in volunteering to help out on race day you can find the registration to volunteer on the Marine Corps Marathon website. They also have a free virtual trainer to help runners get ready for race day. If you are in the area but don't want to volunteer. You can always show your support for the runners by cheering them on somewhere along the route!

Patriot Paws - Service Dogs for Our Wounded Warriors

This past weekend as we were going to pick up our kids from their visit with family. We were listening to FOX News on the radio when I first heard about Patriot Paws.I thought it was a very worthy cause so I have been waiting until we got back home so that I could write this blog to help get the word out.

Service dogs are very expensive... the injured veteran they interviewed said that every place he had contacted wanted about $40k for a service dog... why are they so expensive... most likely because of all the training and hours that have to be put into training them. Service dogs take 18 months to 2 years to get trained. Patriot PAWS has on their website that can cost more than $20,000 to train a dog.

Patriot Paws is a non-profit organization that was founded by Lori Stevens. This wonderful organization trains service dogs and then gives them to our Wounded Warriors who are in need of a service dog for no charge. They are able to do this through volunteers and donations.

Who can apply for a service dog from Patriot Paws... any physically disabled American Veteran. You can download an application from their website on the veterans page.

If you know a Veteran who has been physically disabled and is in need of a service dog please let them know about Patriot Paws.

If you would like to help support Patriot Paws you can make a donation on their website via pay pal. Make a Donation to Patriot Paws

If you would rather make a donation by writing a check, please make the check out to Patriot PAWS Service Dogs and mail it to:

Patriot PAWS Service Dogs
811 Yellow Jacket Lane, Suite 115
Rockwall, TX 75087

Please help get the word out about this great organization. These service dogs can make an enormous difference in the daily lives of our Wounded Warriors.

Until next time....

How can I show my Support for our Wounded Warriers

You may have seen something saying you can send out wounded warriors a Christmas Card to the following

A Recovering American soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001

This is not really an option as this is not allowed. Please see the following for information about it not being allowed and other ways you can show your support for our troops.

Walter Reed Army Medical Center officials want to remind those individuals who want to show their appreciation through mail to include packages, letters, and holiday cards addressed to 'Any Wounded Soldier' or 'A Recovering American Soldier' that Walter Reed cannot accept these packages in support of the decision by then Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Transportation Policy in 2001. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well being of patients and staff at medical centers throughout the Department of Defense.

In addition, the U.S. Postal Service is no longer accepting "Any Service Member" or "A Recovering American Soldier" letters or packages. Mail to "Any Service Member" that is deposited into a collection box will not be delivered.

Instead of sending an "Any Wounded Soldier" letter or package to Walter Reed, please consider making a donation to one of the more than 300 nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping our troops and their families listed on the "America Supports You" website, www.americasupportsyou.mil

Other organizations that offer means of showing your support for our troops or assist wounded servicemembers and their families include:

USO Cares
www4.army.mil/ocpa/tooursoldiers
Red Cross

For individuals without computer access, your local military installation, the local National Guard or military reserve unit in your area may offer the best alternative to show your support to our returning troops and their families. Walter Reed Army Medical Center will continue to receive process and deliver all mail that is addressed to a specific individual.

As Walter Reed continues to enhance the medical care and processes for our returning service members, it must also must keep our patients and staff members safe while following Department of Defense policy. The outpouring of encouragement from the general public, corporate America and civic groups throughout the past year has been incredible. Our Warriors in Transition are amazed at the thanks and support they receive from their countrymen.
